Ormskirk Golf Club

2026 Club Captain - Lee Collier

Lee Collier is very much a local lad.

Born in Aughton in 1968 and educated locally in Maghull, he grew up not far from here and, judging by the amount of time he spends at the club, hasn’t wandered too far since. He captained his school cricket team and, in an early sign that he was never going to be entirely conventional, developed an interest in campanology at St Michael’s Church in Aughton — proving that patience, rhythm and teamwork came naturally from a young age.

Lee left school at 16 to train as an electrician in Liverpool and went on to build a working life that took him all over the UK, from Devon to the Isle of Skye, building telephone masts and putting in long days along the way. Alongside work, he has always been involved in the local community, joining Ormskirk Rotaract, later serving as Treasurer of the Ormskirk Festival, and becoming a long-standing member of both Ormskirk Round Table and 41 Club.

Sport has always played a part. Cricket came first, then running — taken up in his forties after what can only be described as an optimistic conversation with a friend. This resulted in the Manchester 10k, the Great North Run, the New York Marathon and finally the London Marathon in 2014, all in aid of the Anthony Nolan Charity. At that point, Lee decided he had probably run far enough.

Golf arrived slightly later, courtesy of a stag weekend in Dublin, where a friend’s father observed that Lee looked as though he was enjoying himself far too much and suggested he join a golf club. Lee took the advice — and eventually, in November 2015, joined Ormskirk Golf Club.

Since then, Lee has made the club very much his second home — and in truth, on some weeks, possibly his first. He has served six years on Council, has been Snooker Chairman since winning the competition in his first year, and has been a familiar and reliable presence around the club ever since. His involvement has never been about profile; it has simply been about enjoying the club and giving something back.

In 2025, Captain Alan Acheson asked Lee to act as House Chairman for his year. Later that year, he was asked whether his name could be put forward for Captaincy — an honour that reflects not just membership, but time, trust and commitment in a club where none of those are given lightly.

Announced as Captain-Elect at the Annual Dinner in November 2025, Lee now takes on the role of Captain for 2026.

2026 Ladies Captain - Judith Temple

Judith grew up on a farm just outside Ormskirk, went to Bickerstaffe Primary School and then Ormskirk Grammar School. She left after A levels to work for NatWest Bank where she stayed for 35 years, latterly in Commercial Banking in Liverpool.

Judith lives in Scarisbrick with her husband Phil, they have a grown-up daughter and son who no longer live locally but who they see as often as they can - their son Jack also played golf at Ormskirk before leaving for university, was Junior Captain and worked behind the bar.

Her husband Phil bought her golf lessons around 25 years ago and she has never looked back.... he may have regretted this gift at times! She joined Ormskirk Golf Club in 2005, plays regularly in competitions and matches and has served on Ladies Committee twice, firstly on Competitions and latterly as Secretary. Phil joined in 2009 - they play together in competitions and socially and have many friends within the Club.

Away from golf, Judith plays tennis at Ormskirk Tennis Club where she has been a member since she was 11, playing socially and in matches and was also part of the coaching team for several years. She played hockey for Ormskirk and has often met past opponents from both sports, in golf matches. When not playing golf or tennis, Judith likes to spend time in the gym, walking her dog Molly and gardening.

2026 Colts Captain - Aaron Shacklady

Aaron was born in Ormskirk and has lived in Ormskirk/Burscough his whole life.

He attended Ormskirk High school / Sixth Form for school and college studies completing Maths, Physics, Chemistry at college. After this he attended University of Liverpool to study Chemistry and has since graduated achieving a 2:1 in a Chemistry bachelor's degree.

Outside of education he has worked many part time jobs involving hospitality, including working for the golf club for their annual Sportsman's Dinner and Ladies Night. However, his main role in hospitality has been working at Briars Hall Hotel as part of the management team since 2021.

Aaron got into golf through his father (David Shacklady) lot later than people may expect. He has always been busy playing various sports such as football, cross country, tennis, etc and because of this he only took an interest in golf when he joined Ormskirk Golf club in 2019. He joined as a junior member after attending junior nights organized by John & Maxine Price at the time. Since then, he started properly playing in late 2022 and now enjoys coming up to play in club competitions and weekly chuck ins.
