Mother from Liverpool, Father from Southern Ireland.
Educated at Crosshall High School or Wigan Road High School to everyone that lived locally.

A life long Everton supporter, Alan also offers his full support to any team that happens to be playing against Liverpool FC.
Served a 4 year apprenticeship as a bricklayer, obtaining City and Guilds and advanced City and Guilds at Liverpool Building college, Clarence Street, Liverpool.
The early 1980,s was a tough time generally with record unemployment, recession and widespread public disorder and the building trade suffered drastically.
Watching “The Bill” on television one night, Alan saw Reg Hollis plodding his way down the road and thought, “I could do that”. He subsequently joined the Lancashire Constabulary in April 1987 and served for 30 years, working all over the County but predominantly in the Southern Division of Lancashire.
He was a Sergeant for 22 years and specialised as a firearms officer, Detective and Detective Sergeant.
Upon his retirement from the Police in 2017, Alan sought employment with the North West ambulance service, where he worked on the patient transport section for nearly 7 years.
It was his early years in the police that he was asked to join a group of colleagues in a game of golf. Having days off in the middle of the week, suited the development of his love for the game. Alan subsequently went on to run the Southern Division police golf society and visited numerous courses all over the North West of England.
Alan was proposed into the club in late 1999 by close friends Nigel Guy and Stuart Randall, to whom he has been indebted for this honour ever since.
Returning to his origins Alan has assisted the club with repairs and maintenance of multiple projects including the renovation of the outside benches and numerous dry stone walls along its boundary perimeter.
He has assisted with the many Marquee events and ran it in its entirety in 2019.
He has served on Council under house and chaired the Entertainments section.
Alan is married to Alison, who is also a member at the club and enjoys participating in the many mixed golf competitions.
