2017 Club Captain - Stan Broster

Stan was born in Liverpool and was educated at Quarry Bank High School until 1962. He then studied architecture for six years in Liverpool, qualifying in 1968, and working as an architect in a Liverpool based private practice. He eventually moved to his family business of interior contracting and design. On his father’s passing in 1974, he became Managing Director of the Company and remained in this position until retiring from the business in 2004. He then reverted to architecture with his own practice for several years.

Stan met his wife Lyn at “Youth Club” in Childwall, Liverpool during the “swinging 60s”, and they were married in 1969. Both were involved in sport, particularly tennis, before taking up the game of golf. They have a son Julian, a daughter Emma, and five grandchildren aged 5 to 13.

Other interests include watching football (a keen Liverpool FC fan), and music. In the 60s Stan played guitar and keyboards in a group playing at prominent venues in Merseyside. He always also had a love of classical music, now having an extensive record collection, and is a Subscriber to the Liverpool Philharmonic Society.

He was on Council for five years, serving on both House and Green Committees, and was asked to chair a House Development Committee in 2006, and House Advisory Committee in 2009. He also served on the Ecology Committee as Chairman for several years until 2014.

2017 Ladies Captain - Rita Darwin

Rita started playing golf when she retired, and joined Ormskirk Golf Club in 2004.  She served on the Ladies’ Committee from 2010 to 2015, firstly looking after ‘House’ matters, then as Ladies’ Hon. Secretary.

She studied chemistry at university and during her career worked in the private and public sectors in a variety of roles.  When not playing golf she enjoys travelling, cooking and the arts.

2017 Colts Captain - Will McCombe

Will has been a member of Ormskirk Golf Club since 1999 starting out as a junior learning the game from the club professional Jack and has now been competing in junior and colts matches for the club for over ten years both home and away.

As a former colts cup winner Will has been concentrating on improving his golf in his spare time since graduating with a BA (hons) Business & Management from university in 2013, in his working life he is a third generation landlord after his grandfather Andy, and father Michael who are also members of the golf club.

Will ‘It as an honour to be selected as Ormskirk Colts Captain for 2016 and I am hoping for a successful year with the team’

2017 Junior Captain -Heidi Wellman

Heide is on a Golf Scholarship at Myerscough College for the next 2 years. As part of the course Heide worked at the Turkish Open recently and will be playing golf in Portugal and Florida this year.

Heide started playing golf 3 years ago and in her second season won England Golf's National Skills Competition at Woodhall Spa after winning the Lancashire and North of England Qualifying Competitions .Last year Heide was a regular team member of Lancashire Girls and this year has been elevated to the Senior 'B' Squad.

Heide also won a number of competitions both home and away including the Lancashire Autumn Girls Open and our Junior Matchplay .Heide enjoys playing football having played for Burscough Girls, currently Myerscough and has been asked to trial at Preston North End girls.

Heide said, " I am so happy to have been chosen as Ormskirk Junior Captain for 2016. I am looking forward to representing our golf club and supporting the junior section".
